Lifetimes and Decay Modes of Beauty Baryons

Recent measurements of the lifetimes and semileptonic branching fractions of beauty baryons at LEP and the Tevatron are reviewed and new world averages are presented. There remains some discrepancy between the theoretical predictions for the lifetimes of beauty baryons and the observed values.

We perform a detailed investigation of total lifetimes for the doubly heavy baryons Ξ QQ ′ , Ω QQ ′ in the framework of operator product expansion over the inverse heavy quark mass, whereas, to estimate matrix elements of operators obtained in OPE, approximations of nonrelativistic QCD are used.
